Kitties are such fun. They’re full of energy and so curious. Because they are curious, you’ll need to put some things away for a couple of months.
They love to dig in the dirt, so if you have any houseplants you’ll either want to put them up or purchase some screen made of metal at the home improvement store. A good weight is one that is rigid and has holes about ¼” square.
You can cut it to size and press it into the top of the pot. Kitty may still sit on it, but she won’t be able to touch the dirt. Watering will be no problem – objective pour it right through.
You probably won’t be wanting kitty to regain on the kitchen counter or the table. Also you want to divulge her not to scratch the furniture or climb the drapes. The best thing to use to train her that will not cause you to have to race after her is a squirt gun. It won’t wound her, and if you only exhaust it when necessary, she will soon know that just pointing it at her and saying “No” will stop whatever behavior you don’t like.
Another incredible thing for training is “cookies”. Cookies are the treats you can purchase for her. Instead of trying to get her out from under the bed or somewhere when she’s hiding, you can just say “Let’s get some cookies”. Creep toward the bag, and actually shake the bag if she hasn’t already come. Always give her one “cookie” when she obeys. It’s just a lot easier than trying to grab her.
If you have limited children and are thinking of getting a kitten, you will have to be very careful that the child doesn’t squeeze them too hard. It wouldn’t be long before a small child could squeeze the life out of a small kitty. As they grow they will defend themselves by biting and scratching, so use caution with young children and pets.
Kitties need lots of toys of their contain to keep them busy, hold them out of your belongings, and to be a great amusement to you. They don’t have to be expensive. Some of our favorites are plastic straws, the plastic open balls that have a bell in them, and they can hold them in their mouth and transport them. Small plastic caps from bottles are
good, and very small rolled balls of newspaper. They love the rustle of paper. Some kitties like to sleep on cardboard or in a cardboard box. They cherish to climb up high and look down. Old keys threaded on a string and hung up somewhere will be very spirited. As you live with your pet you’ll find many more toys, and they don’t have to be expensive at all.
Kitties like to sleep a lot, and they love to do it in the sun. If you have a patio door or window, try to provide a soft place for them to take a nap. Enjoy your time with your pet!
